Scholastic Standards

All high school classes at Davidson Early College are Honors level classes. The grading scale for high school classes is as follows:

 

Some college classes follow a 10 point scale and some follow a 7 point scale.

 

Progress Reports will be issued on a regular basis and discussed with students in Seminar. Final grades for High School and College will be issued at the end of the semester.

 

At the end of the semester, students are awarded for academic excellence by being named to the Dean's List. For a student to obtain Dean's List recognition, he/she must have at least a 3.0 GPA for all work completed with no incomplete or grades lower than a "C". The student must also meet the applicable attendance requirements and not be in danger of losing credit due to excessive absences. 

 

Students at Davidson Early College High School who have done outstanding academic work in their high school courses will be recognized as Honor Graduates. High Honors are granted to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Honors are granted to students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 but less than 3.8.

 

A student must have passed and received credit for a minimum load of work (70% of attempted courses) during the preceding semester to be eligible at any time during the current semester. In addition, students much also meet local promotion standards as set by the Davidson County Board of Education. A student who is not eligible at any time during the semester unless a hardship is established.

 

Students need to obtain a blank eligibility certificate from the School Counselor, take it home for parents to fill out, and return the form to the Counselor for certification before they can go to the DMV to receive a driving permit or license.

 

The college offers a tutoring program free of charge contingent upon availability of a tutor. Any student wanting tutoring help in one or more subjects, as well as any student referred by an instructor, should contact the Learning Assistance Center. Tutoring is provided by professional tutors in a lab setting with designated hours as well as one-on-one by trained peer tutors. The Writing Center is a free, non-credit service located in the Learning Assistance Center that is open to all students. The Center's mission is to provide a setting where students can receive assistance with either personal writing needs or classroom writing assignments from any class. Please contact the Learning Center or Davidson Early College High School Counselor for more information.

 

In order to graduate with a certificate, diploma, or AA/AS/AAS from Davidson County Community College, students must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (C) or higher. Any student earning below a 3.0 (B) in a college course will be required to participate in additional tutoring until all college course grades return a minimum of 3.0 (B). If performance in college courses continues to decline, students can be placed on contract or asked to return to their district school.
